After a close game in New Jersey against the Devils on Saturday afternoon, which the Caps narrowly lost 2-1 in overtime, they rebounded with 4-3 victory against the poor Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday afternoon. That gap between the Caps and Carolina in the Southeast Division is getting smaller with every game now.
Speaking of Carolina, the Carolina Panthers won their first NFC championship yesterday, and made it through to Super Bowl XXXVIII with a 14-3 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. They'll face the New England Patriots (who beat the Indianapolis Colts 24-14 for the AFC championship) on February 1st in Houston.
And finally, thanks to a dodgy free kick, and a penalty that shouldn't have been, Villa lost 2-0 at home to Arsenal yesterday afternoon. Hollywood star Kevin Costner was at the game - I didn't know he was an Arsenal fan! Villa play Bolton next on Wednesday evening in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final.
