Woo! The Caps finished the 2002 half of their season with a 4-3 win against Buffalo last night at MCI Center. The Caps are now second in the southeast division. I shall end today's only post, and my last one of 2002, with another great link from Vishal - I'm sure he'll keep them coming in 2003!

Ouch! It hurts being beaten 2-1 in overtime, doesn't it? Though to be honest, the Devils were the better team on the night. But then again, some questionable decisions by the officials didn't help either. The Caps still got a point for the overtime loss, which is of some consolation.

Which NHL team is currently on a hot streak, only one point behind Carolina (who got hammered last night), and only three points behind Tampa Bay? The Washington Capitals that's who! The Caps beat the New Jersey Devils 3-2 at MCI Center last night. The Caps and the Devils go at it again tonight.

Apparently, Britain has caught the broadband bug, so why on earth can't I get broadband where I live? It's not as though I live miles out in the English countryside! Come on Telewest, if you don't get your act together soon, I will consider changing to BT! I yearn for fast Internet access...

The Caps have back-to-back games against top of the atlantic division New Jersey Devils coming up. The first game is at MCI Center tonight, but I'm in work at 6am tomorrow so I can't listen in. The second game is in New Jersey on Saturday night, and that game I will be listening in to (even if it is at 1am UK time).

Well, as it's Christmas, I shall give you a second update. Those that visit often will know this is quite a rare thing, so think of it as a Christmas present from me to you! This second post was prompted by Vishal sending me this article. Have you ever wondered how different Christmas 2050 will be?

Posted By Gary On December 25, 2002

Merry Christmas!

Posted By Gary On December 25, 2002

It was mayhem all day at work yesterday, and it was mayhem again this morning, too! I'm glad it's all over. Things should settle back down again after the Christmas holidays. It's not 2003 just yet, but my New Years resolution (or at least one of them) will be to make this Christmas my last ever at this place!

The Caps players will have a great Christmas after last nights 3-0 annihilation of Tampa Bay Lightning. That man Olie Kolzig stopped a massive 40 shots to earn his first shutout of the season. The win takes the Caps to within three points of the southeast division top spot, which is most excellent!

Woo! Despite going a goal down (which seems to be a bad habit of theirs at the moment) the Caps beat the New York Islanders 3-1 in Uniondale last night. Unfortunately, over this side of the pond, Villa were beaten 2-0 away at Chelsea. It was busy here today, I expect the same (but far worse) tomorrow.

Posted By Gary On December 22, 2002

Yeah! What a fantastic result for the Caps last night - they absolutely hammered the Boston Bruins into submission! Goalie Olie Kolzig stopped 36 shots, and the Caps netted four goals without reply before Boston finally got into the game. The final score at MCI Center was 5-3 to the Capitals. Yeah!

It's a good job that I don't mention by name where I work when I'm slagging it off (which I do pretty much all the time when I do write something about it) otherwise the story in this article might happen to me! I wonder if using a link is the same thing though? Hmm...

Despite taking the lead, then falling behind 3-1, and then levelling the game 3-3 with minutes to spare, Villa lost in the quarter-final of the Worthington Cup last night 4-3 to Liverpool - the winning goal coming in the last minute. Last minute goals aren't nice when it's your team being scored against!

When you're away from home, it helps if your goalie performs well - and that's exactly what happened last night in Colorado! Goalie Olie Kolzig stopped 35 shots as the Caps earned a hard fought 2-2 draw against Colorado Avalanche. The Caps are back at home to face the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.

In other news, the US has decided to go full throttle with its missile defence shield, and AOL has won $7m in damages against a company that sent its subscribers almost a billion unwanted e-mails advertising adult websites. I never thought I'd say (well, write) this but, well done AOL!

I'm determined to get my CV finished today. In the meantime, something I've just read has made me chuckle: "...just learned that some kiddies put explosives in the mailbox. I just hope my letters got emptied out before it went boom". If you don't do so already, go and read Phil's site!

Well, I was hoping that it would be a good win for the Caps in San Jose - they lost 2-0. The Sharks goalie played a superb game, stopping everything the Caps offence threw at him (a total of 34 shots). The final game on a five game road trip for the Caps is against Colorado Avalanche on Monday.

Forget everything else, this is what I want for Christmas!

My quote of the week comes from a story from CNN's Offbeat news section: "If we allowed everyone who wanted to drop their pants and moon police officers, we are undermining the authority of the police". Confused? Then go and read the full story here - thanks to Vishal for the link!

Staying with CNN's excellent Offbeat news section, my favourite story of the week has to be this one - simply reading the opening paragraph is enough to make me giggle uncontrollably. The story is a few days old, but I simply had to tell you about it now, because it totally slipped my mind yesterday.

The Caps beat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3 yesterday! The win was the Caps' first ever in Phoenix, and their first in three games on the their current five game road trip. Tonight sees the Caps face their old coach, Ron Wilson, as they visit the home of the San Jose Sharks. I'm hoping it'll be a good win for the Caps.

Over this side of the pond, Aston Villa beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1, courtesy of a late injury time goal from young Villa midfielder, Tomas Hitzlsperger. The win takes Villa up to fourteenth in the table, and above city rivals Birmingham, which is always a welcome sight to see.

That's it for today, more tomorrow!

It has been a few days since I last updated, so I guess I'd better write something. But that could be a problem because I haven't really got anything to write about! I guess I'll just have to let you know that the Caps lost again last night. They were beaten 3-0 by the Mighty Ducks. That's it for today...

I promised back in November that I'd have my CV available for viewing (or downloading) on this site soon. Well, it will be... soon. I promise. In fact, I shall have it up by tomorrow if all goes to plan. In the meantime, go and read this article all about spam and how it isn't overwhelming the inboxes of US workers.

I just can't get enough of Mariah Carey's brilliant new album, Charmbracelet. In fact, since you're reading this, why don't you click here and buy yourself a copy? It really is her best album since Daydream - and that's saying something - Daydream is my all time favourite Mariah album!

The Caps lost to one of the worst teams in the NHL last night. After their last minute heroics in overtime against Atlanta, the Caps were beaten 4-3 by the Buffalo Sabres - with the Sabres scoring two goals in the last three minutes! The Caps are now second from bottom in the southeast division...

Back over this side of the pond, Aston Villa were also beaten 1-0 with a late goal by Newcastle. And, just as I write this, Villa have been given a hard draw against Blackburn Rovers in the third round of the FA Cup! Villa has home advantage, but they really could have done with facing a weaker team.

I recently purchased new albums by Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Toni Braxton. All three were, in my opinion, excellent purchases! Mariah's album is definitely her best since Daydream, Whitney's album is also the best I've heard from her so far, and Toni's album is much better than her last one.

Finally for today's update, I am now hopelessly addicted to the Play The World expansion pack for Civilization III - I'm currently downloading the latest patch as I write this. Once it has downloaded, I shall install it, run the game, and then make England the most powerful nation in the world!

It was a wild one at MCI Center last night! Two goals down with only two minutes to play in regulation, the Caps came back to tie the game against Atlanta 6-6 with only seconds to spare - and then won the game 7-6 in overtime! Why do I always miss the best games? It's the Buffalo Sabres tonight.

Socks, the resident White House moggy during the Clinton Administration, is returning home to Arkansas for the first time since he left for Washington in 1992. Thanks to Vishal for the link! In other news, this was once the stuff of science fiction - not any more - I think this is a wonderful development.

I bought myself two early Christmas presents today from the official Washington Capitals Store. The first item I bought is a cool white T-Shirt with the Caps' logo on the front, and the second is a Mouse Pad, which is something I need quite badly as my current one is falling apart!

The Caps take on Atlanta at MCI Center tonight, hoping to avenge a 5-4 defeat last Sunday. Unfortunately, due to being in work early tomorrow (another horrible 6am start), I won't be able to listen in. I will however, be able to listen in to the Caps' Saturday night game against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Villa beat Preston 5-0 last night to progress to the quarter-finals of the Worthington Cup. They've been rewarded with home advantage as they face Liverpool for a place in the semi-final. It will be a very tough game, but the advantage of playing at home might help them to pull off a win.

You'd think I couldn't go a day without mentioning Ice Hockey, wouldn't you? However, I feel it's worth mentioning that former Caps coach, Ron Wilson (who was fired by the Caps and replaced by Bruce Cassidy), has been hired as the new coach of the San Jose Sharks. That's all for today...

Posted By Gary On December 5, 2002

The Caps thumped the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 last night - getting their revenge for a 3-2 defeat earlier in the season at Mellon Arena! The Caps will welcome the Atlanta Thrashers (again) to the MCI Center this Friday to try and avenge last Sunday's 5-4 road defeat. It will be an excellent game.

Posted By Gary On December 4, 2002

The Caps were beaten 5-4 by the Atlanta Thrashers yesterday afternoon. They played well but individual mistakes cost them dearly. The Caps go to the Mellon Arena to do battle against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night, where they'll want to avenge a 3-2 defeat earlier in the season.

Wow, it's December already. Almost another year over and done with and nearly time for my most favourite time of year, Christmas! You'll no doubt notice the new snowflake background that I've added - GazNET is now officially in winter mode! I'll change the GazNET logo to a more seasonal logo shortly.

The Caps play the Atlanta Thrashers today and, as I write this, we're ten minutes away from the face off. At least I will be able to listen in on the game for once. The Caps beat bottom of the division Atlanta 6-3 just a few weeks ago, so I'm hoping for a repeat performance. Go Caps!

Villa were beaten 3-1 by top of the table Arsenal yesterday. Back over the other side of the pond, the MLS has changed the format of the 2003 competition slightly to bring it into line with the rest of the worlds top leagues. And in the cricket - no surprises here - England have lost the Ashes series to Australia.

Finally for today, Mariah Carey's new album Charmbracelet is out on Monday - I have my copy on order. To celebrate the new album from my favourite lady, the Mariah Carey section of this site will be back up and running shortly. It's not quite finished yet, but it will be soon.
