Yeah! Woohoo! I didn't think they'd do it, but they did! The Caps pulled off a sensational 3-2 win against the Ottawa Senators last night, taking them to within two points of Tampa Bay at the top of the southeast division! The Caps face the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight.
It's here! It's here! My copy dropped through the door this morning and I can't wait to get it up and running. What am I talking about? Championship Manager 4, of course! It has been a long time coming, but now it's finally here. So if I don't post anything for a while, you know why!
The Caps face the Ottawa Senators tonight, safe in the knowledge that they've secured a playoff spot. But that doesn't mean they can relax - there's a division title to be won! Tampa Bay was held to a tie against New Jersey last night, so a win against Ottawa would pull the Caps within two points.
Woohoo! The Caps got a goal in overtime last night to beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 at the Bell Centre! That win keeps the Caps within three points of Tampa Bay, who were five points clear after beating San Jose on Tuesday. The Caps face the Ottawa Senators next on Friday night.
Argh! The Caps were destroyed 6-0 by the Vancouver Canucks last night! This is not a good result for the Caps. I'm sure they'll be hoping that San Jose beat Tampa Bay tonight (though I don't see that happening myself), because if Tampa Bay win, they'll be five points clear at the top of the southeast division!
On Thursday night, before the game against the New York Islanders, a fair number of disgraceful Montreal Canadiens fans booed the U.S. national anthem to voice their displeasure at U.S. military action in Iraq. So it was nice to see an apology issued by Montreal Canadiens' president, Pierre Boivin.
It was even nicer to see that this behaviour had pretty much been corrected when the Canadiens played the Carolina Hurricanes last night. Toronto fans and Edmonton fans should also be applauded for their excellent behaviour during the U.S. national anthem before their games last night.
The Caps were the team at Edmonton last night, and despite playing some excellent hockey, they were beaten 5-3, giving up four goals in the third period. To make matters worse, Tampa Bay beat Phoenix 4-0, and are now three points clear of the Caps at the top of the southeast division!
The Caps face the Vancouver Canucks tonight. Being top of the northwest division, they're not exactly the most ideal team to be playing right now, especially as the Caps need a win to keep within reach of Tampa Bay! I'll be hoping for a win, although a tie would also be a good result.
Woohoo! The Caps got their six game Canadian road trip off to a perfect start by beating the Calgary Flames 4-1 at the Saddledome. Tampa Bay could only manage a tie with Los Angeles, so that means the Caps are only one point behind them. The Edmonton Oilers are up next.
So it has begun. After the quick opening attack aimed at taking out that nasty regime early, the real assault - to shock and to awe - is underway. It goes without saying that my thoughts are with all those brave servicemen and women, their families and their friends - I am so very proud of them.
I stayed up to listen to the game between the Minnesota Wild and Tampa Bay Lightning last night on WCCO. It looked to be all over when the Lightning thundered (excuse the pun) into a 3-1 lead, but Minnesota rallied back to tie the game 3-3, keeping Tampa within the reach of the Caps, who play Thursday.
Woohoo! The Caps beat Colorado Avalanche 2-1 last night! The Caps' newest player, Sergei Berezin, assisted on the first goal, and scored the second (he also got the lone goal against LA in his first game, too). That means the Caps are only one point behind Tampa Bay Lightning in the southeast division.
So naturally I'm hoping that Minnesota Wild will be able to do the Caps a big favor by beating Tampa Bay when they play tonight. The Wild are miles behind Colorado Avalanche in the northwest division, so a victory is vital for them. I might even listen in myself and become a Wild supporter for one night only!
It's just too much to bear at the moment - all my teams are losing! Over this side of the pond, Aston Villa were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United. Despite dominating for much of the game, Villa just couldn't score a goal! Some say Villa might be in relegation trouble, but I seriously doubt they're in any danger.
Over the other side of the pond, the Caps were beaten 3-1 by Los Angeles, and to make matters worse, Tampa Bay have won their last two games, and are now three points ahead of the Caps in the division! The Caps face Colorado Avalanche at MCI Center tonight - with a tough road trip ahead, a win is vital.
I decided to defrag my hard disk today after letting it get to 72% fragmentation - I'll never let it get that bad again - it took absolutely ages! Still, things are running a whole lot faster now, though. All I need to do now is sort through the 210 e-mails that have accumulated in my inbox while the defrag was going on...
The Caps face the Los Angeles Kings at MCI Center tonight, hoping to gain at least a point from the game. With injuries to three top players, including star forward Jaromir Jagr, the Caps will field a weaker team. I'm in work at 6am tomorrow, but I'll try and catch at least the first period before I go to bed!
Despite my thinking that the Caps wouldn't acquire anyone before the trade deadline yesterday, they went and acquired Sergei Berezin, a left wing forward from the Chicago Blackhawks, for a modest 4th round selection in the 2004 Entry Draft. He'll get his debut against the Kings on Friday night.
Have you read about the Internet 2 yet? You should do, because it looks wonderful. If you're unable to reach a deal on access to a mobile radio network, and you want to do it out of court, how do you do it? You arm wrestle, of course! Thanks to Vishal for the excellent link!
Woohoo! An excellent overtime victory for the Caps was just what the doctor ordered after losing in overtime against Boston on Saturday! The Caps beat Philadelphia 2-1, despite having star forward Jaromir Jagr missing through injury. The Caps now have a three-point cushion atop of the southeast division.
Incidentally, 3pm today (8pm GMT) is the trade deadline in the NHL. There's some interesting trades taking place - you can see all the trades as they happen by clicking here - courtesy of the official NHL site. It doesn't look as though the Caps will acquire any new players before this deadline, though.
The new MLS season is less than a month away from starting and I just can't wait for it to begin! But I seriously hope the injury problems plaguing DC United at the moment subside before then, because they were beaten 5-0 in a pre-season game by the Kansas City Wizards!
Also less than a month away is the release of the eagerly anticipated Championship Manager 4 - it's going to be huge - and I'm going to pre-order it from Amazon just to make sure I get my copy. I don't think there will be any site updates for months when my copy arrives in the post, though!
Wow - it has been four days since my last update!
I'd better make up for it then by making this update a link filled extravaganza! The reason for the four day hiatus was due to myself working full time at this place to cover for a holidaying colleague. I was so tired by the end of the week; I didn't have the energy to post a thing!
Since my last update the Caps blew a 3-1 lead and had to settle for a 4-4 tie with Atlanta, and on Saturday they came back from being 3-0 down in the first period, only to lose 5-4 to Boston in overtime! I hate overtime. Still, at least the Caps got a valuable point from each of those games.
Tampa Bay could only manage a tie with the Buffalo Sabres last night, one of the worst teams in the NHL, so the Caps still have a slim one point lead going into tonight's important home game against the Philadelphia Flyers, who are one of the best road teams in the NHL. It will be a tough game.

That's it for today, more tomorrow...
Yeah! Tampa Bay lost 3-2 to the Red Wings last night, meaning the Caps can extend their lead at the top of the division to four points with a victory against the Atlanta Thrashers at MCI Center tonight. I'd love to listen in on the game, but I have to be at work for 6am tomorrow morning!
I've somehow managed to push the result of Monday nights game to the back of my mind. This was partially helped by the Caps beating the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 last night. Tampa Bay also won last night, but tonight they face the Red Wings in Detroit, so hopefully they'll get a good beating!

I can't think of anything to write that would adequately explain what it feels like to see my team, Aston Villa, lose to their arch rivals for the second time this season. It felt bad enough losing 3-0 the first time - now it feels even worse after seeing them lose 2-0 at home last night...
Tonight is the night. At last, a chance to avenge a 3-0 defeat earlier in the season is here. My beloved Aston Villa take on their arch rivals - a team I hate so much that I won't even mention their name or link to their site. This is such a big game - nothing but a win will do.
The Caps beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0 last night at MCI Center to go two points clear at the top of the division. The Caps are at Buffalo on Tuesday night - a game that they should win without any problems, as Buffalo are one of the worst teams in the NHL. Again, nothing but a win will do!
Just 33 seconds away from what would have been an excellent victory for the Caps it all went terribly wrong. New Jersey scored the equalizer, and then scored the game winning goal to win 2-1 in overtime. I couldn't believe it. Tampa Bay also won last night, beating Ottawa 2-1.
So, with the Caps tied with Tampa Bay for first place in the division, a good victory at MCI Center tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes, who are having a terrible season, is an absolute must! It's also an ideal opportunity for the Caps to avenge a 3-1 defeat back in Carolina last month.
The Caps are at the Continental Airlines Arena tonight to take on the New Jersey Devils in what is the last regular season meeting of the two teams. It's going to be a tough game, and the Caps really need to win as Tampa Bay, who play Ottawa tonight, are only one point behind them in the standings!
As the world waits to see if war with Iraq will happen, the build up of US and UK forces around Iraq continues. However, no matter how over-stretched our armed forces are, someone needs to tell the Ministry of Defence that calling up an 80 year old pensioner isn't really the best solution!
