It's sure good to be back online after the landscapers doing my front garden cut through the cable on Friday afternoon! Telewest couldn't get anyone out to fix it until Monday morning, so I had no Internet access all weekend, which needless to say, kind of upset me. So if you've been wondering where I've been, now you know!
I'm really enjoying Millennium Season 1, which I got on DVD from Amazon the other week. I've already got Season 2 on preorder from Amazon, and I've just discovered today that Season 3 is now also available for preorder from Amazon, with a release date of October 25th! And yes, I've preordered my copy already!
After being dumped out of the U.S. Open Cup in the 4th round, losing 2-1 to the A-League's Richmond Kickers, an injury and suspension hit D.C. United were then hammered 5-1 by Dallas Burn, completing a miserable week for my favourite MLS team, which also saw winger Bobby Convey transferred to Reading.
Last Monday, Millennium Season 1 was finally released on DVD in the UK. My copy arrived from Amazon a few days later, and unlike a certain other online retailer, it arrived in one piece! I'm delighted to finally own the superb first season on DVD. Season 2 is released on September 27th - I've preordered my copy already!
D.C. United drew 1-1 with L.A. Galaxy on Saturday night. Despite having several players out through injury, D.C. played pretty well. They face the Richmond Kickers in the U.S. Open Cup next. Prior to the L.A. game, they beat Nottingham Forest 4-3 on penalties, in a friendly game that finished 1-1 after normal time.
Further to my previous post regarding Play's ridiculous packaging, after the latest CD I ordered from them arrived yesterday slightly damaged (not the actual CD, just the case), I'm never buying a thing from them again. I don't care if Amazon are more expensive, but at least I know my order will arrive intact!
I love reading books, especially when they're by a favourite author. I especially love Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch novels. I just started reading the fourth novel, The Last Coyote, a few days ago and I'm loving it already. I've got Harlan Coben's fourth Myron Bolitar novel, Back Spin, to read after that as well.
After spanking archrivals the MetroStars 6-2 at home two Saturday's ago, I was a little disappointed to see my favourite MLS team, D.C. United, lose 1-0 away to the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday. Then again, it was always going to be a tough game. United play Nottingham Forest in a friendly tomorrow.
Australian parliamentarians are calling for better protection after recently discovering over 50 pieces of spyware on their systems. Apparently, the standard operating environment is based on Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6. Why am I not surprised? XP and Internet Explorer 6? Yikes! That's just asking for trouble.
It can't be true! They've found a security flaw in Firefox and some other Mozilla browsers! Thankfully, unlike a certain other software company, they fixed it right away. When it comes to sheer number of security flaws though, Internet Explorer is king. 2004 is turning out to be a very bad year for Microsoft's browser.
Another day, another "thanks but no thanks" letter. They might well of started their letter "thanks for wasting your time applying for this job". I really can't believe it. God knows how I never even got an interview. Apparently, I can get "feedback" on my application. Hmm... I feel a rather sarcastic e-mail coming on.
Yet another security flaw in Internet Explorer has been discovered. This one takes advantage of a similar flaw that Microsoft patched last week. Unfortunately, that patch only addressed part of the wider problem that is the inherently insecure ActiveX. Want my advice? Download Mozilla Firefox.
Iolo's System Mechanic Pro has, in my opinion, unseated Norton SystemWorks as the king of PC problem-solving utilities. Basically, as this review says, it's twice the product for half the price. I'm currently trialling a copy of SMPro, and believe me, it's an excellent suite of utilities. Symantec had better watch out!
It's my birthday! I'm 23 today. Thank you to all those who sent cards and text messages wishing me a good one. Where are all the presents, though? I didn't link to my Amazon Wish List the other day for nothing you know! Just kidding. I also share my birthday with U.S. President George W. Bush, who's 58 today.
Happy 4th July to all my American visitors!
My good friend Richard was more than a little worried when he clicked on the link I posted to my Amazon Wish List yesterday and saw this listed on it. For some inexplicable reason, I'd somehow linked to the wrong Wish List! I've now corrected it, so if you were thinking of buying me something Rich, now you can!
