What a fantastic debut Milan Baros had at Villa Park on Saturday! He scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Blackburn. Villa signed a new defender today, Wilfred Bouma, from PSV Eindhoven. Hopefully, he'll settle in just a quickly! Over the other side of the pond, D.C. United lost 2-1 against New England.

I'm off down Villa Park tomorrow afternoon to watch Villa take on Blackburn. I'm hoping new striker Milan Baros will give them a boost as they search for their first win of the season. They drew 1-1 with Portsmouth in midweek. Over the other side of the pond, D.C. United lost 3-2 at home to Los Angeles last Saturday.

I've just finished reading Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. Wow! What a novel, what an author! Tom Clancy has already cemented his position in my list of all-time favourite authors. Red Storm Rising is an absolute masterpiece of a techno-thriller. Highly recommended. I'm going to start reading Patriot Games tonight!

Is it just me or are there no decent combat flight simulators for the PC these days? Personally, the best combat flight simulator I've ever played has to be F-19 Stealth Figher released in 1988 by MicroProse on the Amiga (those were the days). Do you know of any good combat flight sims for the PC? If so, let me know.

From search to desktop search to groups to e-mail to froogle to maps to earth Google can do no wrong. I'd love to work for them. Today they released a beta of their messaging program, Google Talk. Sadly, the Gmail username I want (garyjb) is taken, and a Gmail account is needed to sign up, so I won't be using it.

I've added a "favicon" to GazNET this evening. It's basically a little icon in the form of the capital "G" of the familiar blue GazNET logo. If you're using Firefox or Opera, you should see it appear to the left-hand side of the address bar. In Internet Explorer it will appear in your favourites drop-down if you bookmark this site.

I've just put the finishing touches to a plugin that allows you to search the archives of my site directly from within either Firefox or Mozilla. You can manually install it by downloading the files and putting them in the searchplugins folder of your Mozilla or Firefox install. Alternatively, go here to install it automatically.

It was a bad weekend for my football teams. Villa lost 1-0 away to Manchester United, and D.C. United lost 3-2 at home to the Los Angeles Galaxy. Villa are back in action on Tuesday night against Portsmouth, and D.C. United are back in action next Saturday against the New England. A win for both would be nice!

I just love Blueyonder. Very soon they'll be making their broadband services even faster, and as a result, my current 1Mb connection will be upgraded to 4Mb at no extra cost! In addition to that they're also increasing the upstream speed to up to 384k from 128k! Blueyonder are simply the best broadband provider!

The Premiership finally got underway yesterday afternoon. Villa started at home against Bolton Wanderers. They only managed a 2-2 draw, but when all four goals came in the first nine minutes, I thought it would be a really good game. Unfortunately, the rest of it was dire. Villa are at Old Trafford next Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, over the other side of the pond, D.C. United stretched their winning streak to four games with a 3-2 win against Chicago two weeks ago, a superb 3-0 home win against rivals the MetroStars and yesterdays 3-0 home win again Chivas. United are at home to the Los Angeles Galaxy next Saturday.

I've been busy coding GazNET v5.2 over the past week or so, trying to get it more or less finished so I can upload it. It should have been finished and uploaded ages ago. When I finally get it finished and uploaded, it will look exactly like it does now, but it will be tableless (all done in CSS) and perhaps marginally quicker.

I'm really enjoying Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. It's an absolutely cracking novel. It's also a rather huge novel at 832 pages long! I'm getting through around two chapters a day. The NATO forces have just took a pounding by the Russians. Will they recover and bounce back? I can't wait to read on and find out!

I finished reading Tom Clancy's The Hunt For Red October earlier this week. Having seen the film and read the novel, I can honestly say the novel is way better than the film - infact, it's one of the best novels I've ever read. Highly recommended. I've now starting reading Clancy's second novel, Red Storm Rising.
