Apart from a
4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens before Christmas, the
Caps haven't had much to smile about over the festive period. A
4-3 loss to the Boston Bruins and a
7-2 slaughter by the New Jersey Devils followed. Their final game of 2005 is against the Philadelphia Flyers at home tomorrow afternoon.

You know you're reading a fantastic novel when you stay up until 4am in the morning just to finish it. The book in question was
Clear And Present Danger by Tom Clancy. It's better than
The Cardinal of The Kremlin in my opinion, and I can't recommend it enough. I must get around to watching the
film at some point!

What a fantastic win for the
Villa yesterday! That
4-0 drubbing of Everton was well overdue. Baros notched two goals (the first was handball, but who cares?), Angel and Delaney got the others. Now they need to follow that up by getting two good results against Fulham away tomorrow and Arsenal at home on New Years Eve.

Woo! It's Christmas Eve, folks! I love Christmas I do. It's my favourite time of year bar none. I reckon about now, if he isn't already on his way, Santa is preparing his sleigh and reindeer for a busy night of travelling the globe to deliver presents! As always, you can keep track of his progress on
NORAD Tracks Santa.

I got an excellent Christmas present this week. I'll be starting a new role at work as Junior Test Analyst in the New Year! It's more money and definitely a step in the right direction. I'm really pleased, especially as I didn't get on the
Graduate Scheme (despite traveling down to Woking having made the final stages).
I hate to say it but
Villa were totally outclassed in their
2-0 loss at home to Manchester United last Saturday afternoon. I couldn't understand the logic of playing a 4-5-1 at home, though, unless it was for defensive reasons, and even if it was it didn't work. Up next for Villa: Everton on Boxing Day. It's totally a must win game.
Over the other side of the pond the
Caps and top player Alexander Ovechkin had a good night last night, beating Atlanta in a shootout to win
6-5. That ended a winless streak, having lost their previous two games
3-2 to the Florida Panthers, and
4-1 to the San Jose Sharks. The Caps face the Canadiens later tonight.

I was very pleased to see
Villa battle out a hard earned
1-1 draw against Bolton on Saturday afternoon, and even more pleased to see Juan Pablo Angel net his first goal for absolutely ages. Villa's next two home games are Manchester United this Saturday, and Everton on Boxing Day, and I have tickets for both those games!
Over the other side of the pond, the
Caps lost
5-2 to Nashville and
4-3 to Detroit last week, before beating the Kings
3-2 last night. Said Caps Coach Glen Hanlon after the Detroit game: "These guys are great. The make me smile, even in defeat. I can hardly wait until we start winning these games." Uh, yeah. Me too, Glen!

My beloved cat Charlie died this morning. He wasn't very old at all. When mum took him to the vet yesterday she expected that he would be made better. Sadly, Charlie's condition was far worse than any of us could have imagined. I'll really miss him, and I'm sure his two sisters will too. Thanks for the memories, Charlie. RIP.

I've recently finished reading
The Cardinal of The Kremlin by Tom Clancy and
The Innocent by Harlan Coben. Both novels were cracking good reads and I highly recommend them. I'm currently reading
Clear And Present Danger by Tom Clancy, and after that I've got a new Michael Connelly novel to read called
The Closers.

I'm almost a week late adding it (totally slipped my mind) but I hope you like the Christmas background I added to the site earlier this evening. I've used this particular background for the past couple of years now. I think it looks nice. Speaking of Christmas, there's only 18 days left and I've
still not done my shopping yet!

It should have been three points. After going a goal down against Newcastle yesterday,
Villa pulled level in the second half and would have won the game had Barry not blasted his 88th minute penalty kick over the bar. Still, I'm more than happy with a
1-1 draw, and also how the team played after the Doncaster fiasco.
After losing
3-2 to Buffalo and
3-2 to Florida, the
Caps thumped the Rangers
5-1 at home thanks to a four point game from Ovechkin and all-round good play. Says Rangers defenseman Darius Kasparaitis: "I'm surprised they don't have a better record. They play hard and work hard". Up next for the Caps: Nashville.

Hey, it's December already! They say that the teams who are at the bottom of the league (or close to it) come Christmas are usually the ones that get relegated at the end of the season. And after Tuesday night's utterly embarrassing
3-0 Carling Cup loss to Doncaster, I am very worried
Villa might end up in that position.
