In the three games they played before the Winter Olympics break - congratulations to Sweden who
won the Gold in the Ice Hockey - the
Caps lost
5-0 at home to Florida,
5-4 away at Philadelphia and
6-3 at home to Pittsburgh, so they'll want to get the final stretch of the season off to a good start this evening in Toronto.

Around two weeks or so ago I
got rid of Norton Internet Security as my PC security solution. I replaced the virus protection side of things with
PC Tools AntiVirus, and the firewall side of things with the Windows Firewall. Sadly, though, the Windows Firewall doesn't do outbound filtering, so I began looking around for an alternative.
I set myself a very strict criteria, and I believe I have found a firewall that satisfies it:
Lavasoft Personal Firewall. I'm currently using a 10-day trial version, and the more I use it, the more I like it. It's secure, uses hardly any system resources and there's no visible impact on my PC's performance. I am very, very impressed.

I can't quite believe it. Both the United States
and Canada were knocked out in the quarter finals of the men's Ice Hockey at the Winter Olympics yesterday. The United States lost
4-3 to Finland, and Canada lost
2-0 to Russia. Who could have predicted that? I expected at least one of them - if not both - to go all the way!

There used to be a time when
Symantec products were well worth the money you paid for them. Not anymore. I have finally had enough of their bloated applications slowing my PC down, eating up its resources and causing all sorts of problems. So yesterday I decided uninstall Norton Internet Security for good.
I have replaced it with the impressive
PC Tools AntiVirus and the Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall is actually rather good, but it doesn't have outbound filtering, so I'm currently hunting around for another firewall that does. If you know of any decent, lightweight firewalls,
contact me. Suggestions much appreciated.
I am really disappointed with Symantec. I got rid of Norton SystemWorks a few years back (and replaced it with
System Mechanic) for the exact same reason I got rid of Norton Internet Security. If only they'd sit up, take notice and do something about it. They have lost me as a customer until they change their ways.

Congratulations to the
Pittsburgh Steelers on winning Super Bowl XL last night. They won their first Super Bowl since 1980 by beating the Seattle Seahawks
21-10 in Detroit. It's a shame Seattle didn't win (and I really, really wanted them to), as it would have been their first ever Super Bowl, but alas it wasn't to be.

What fantastic week it has been for
Villa. First of all they got a well deserved
1-1 draw against Chelsea thanks to a Luke Moore goal, and then yesterday Luke Moore got his first career hat trick as Villa demolished Middlesbrough
4-0 at the Riverside! Villa are now 11th in the table, and they play Newcastle next on Saturday.
Over the other side of the pond the
Caps beat Tampa Bay
2-1 last Sunday, but followed it up with a
5-3 loss to the Islanders on Tuesday. Then on Friday night they beat the Leafs
4-1, but followed that up with a
5-0 loss to Tampa Bay last night! Up next for the Capitals: the Florida Panthers at home on Tuesday night.
So who's going to win Super Bowl XL in Detroit this evening then? It's between the
Pittsburgh Steelers and the
Seattle Seahawks. The Steelers are the favourites, but I'm going to tip the Seahawks to win their first ever Super Bowl title. I have a kind of affinity with Seattle, and I would absolutely love them to do it.

In the past five hours my
firewall log has recorded thousands of probes to port 13165 on my machine. I'm sure I can't be the only one seeing these. The weird thing is nobody seems to know what application uses this port (if any). Even
Google doesn't know! It could be a new P2P application or (more likely) a new virus/worm.
