This is turning into a fairly productive week off work for me! I'm making good progress fixing all my blog entries so that the HTML validates correctly (just another 17 months worth of entries to go), and I've fixed the
archive search so that the results are returned on a properly formatted page (the CSS was missing).

The
NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are in to the Conference Finals now. San Jose, New Jersey, Colorado and - most surprisingly - Ottawa were eliminated in the Semis. Barring a miracle comeback from the Anaheim it looks like Edmonton are on their way to the Stanley Cup Final. In the Eastern Conference Final, Buffalo lead Carolina 2-1.
Meanwhile in
MLS my favourite team,
D.C. United, beat Kansas City
2-1 at home a couple of weeks ago, and drew
1-1 with Columbus last Saturday. This Saturday they play Kansas City again at Arrowhead Stadium. There will also be a new expansion team in MLS next season -
Toronto FC - which I think is fantastic news.

I've ordered my ZM-NBF47 from
QuietPC. Unfortunately, they don't have any stock at the moment so I'll have to wait a week or two. I don't mind, though. I've decided to perform a clean install on June 1st. That's the day Half-Life 2: Episode One gets released, so I'll have to work quickly in order to have some time to play it.
On June 9th
Sensible Soccer 2006 gets released for the PC, and I am
so looking forward to playing it! I have been slightly concerned by some of the
screenshots I've seen thus far, but I'm confident the team have done good. I personally think the Amiga version is still the best football game ever made on any format.

Way back in
July 2005 the Northbridge chipset fan on my Abit IC7-G motherboard started making some unwanted noise. I contacted Abit and got a replacement free of charge. But now it has started to make that same noise again! I have thus come to the conclusion that the quality of this chipset fan is utter rubbish.
So what am I going to do? Well, I had considered contacting Abit again for another fan, and even looking for a fanless motherboard to replace my IC7-G, but just now I found the perfect solution. The
ZM-NBF47 from
Zalman. An aluminium heatsink that cools the chipset to its optimal temperature in absolute silence. Brilliant!

I do like the new
Windows Media Player 11. It looks very, very nice indeed, and I just love the spruced up Library and the new Windows Vista-style look. It also
sounds better, too. It's only in beta at the moment, but I've been using it for a few days now without any problems at all, so I highly recommend downloading it.

I went out this afternoon with the intention of buying myself a brand new
Fiesta Zetec Climate. Can you believe Ford hasn't got a single one available in black anywhere in the UK at the moment, and they reckon it'll be a month or two before they do? The offer the dealer had on will have finished by then. I am not impressed.

The
NHL Playoffs sure are interesting this year! Defending Stanley Cup champions Tampa Bay, along with Detroit, Dallas, Montreal, Calgary, New York, Nashville and Philadelphia were all eliminated in the Quarterfinals. I'm shocked the Red Wings were eliminated. There could be another shock on the cards in the Semifinals, too!

Oops. I've not updated for a week! I think I'll start by saying I have now purchased and preloaded my copy of
Half-Life 2: Episode One. I've even taken a couple of days of work to spend time playing it! I can't wait for it to be released on June 1st. I played through Half-Life 2 again last week, and it still amazes me.
Villa finished the Premiership season with a
2-1 victory at home to Sunderland this afternoon. With nothing left to play for, it wasn't a particularly good game, although I think Villa should have won by more. It's sure going to be strange without any Premiership football for a while, but the World Cup and
MLS should keep me going.
Speaking of MLS, my favourite MLS team,
D.C. United, drew
1-1 with FC Dallas last weekend. They lost
2-1 to the Colorado Rapids yesterday, though - their first loss of the season. Strangely enough, FC Dallas - the only other unbeaten team in MLS - also lost yesterday to Houston. D.C. play Kansas next on Saturday.
