The 06/07 NHL season begins next Wednesday night! The Caps travel to Madison Square Garden to start their season against the New York Rangers on Thursday night. Their first home game is on Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. I might listen in to both games on WTNT AM-570 if I can stay awake.

Well, who would have thought this? Six games played so far and Villa are still unbeaten in the Premiership! They easily beat a poor Charlton side 2-0 yesterday. I can't remember the last time Villa won three games in a row at Villa Park! Next week they face a tough away game at Chelsea. I'd be quite happy with a point.

Over the other side of the pond, the playoff-bound D.C. United were beaten 1-0 last Sunday by the Chicago Fire. United made up for that though, by drawing 1-1 with New England on Wednesday night and beating New York 4-3 last night. That win ensures them home-field advantage throughout this years playoffs. Very nice.

So, it's official then! Randy Lerner is the new chairman of my beloved Aston Villa - and he's promising exciting times ahead. I'm absolutely delighted! Randy was there last night to see Villa beat Scunthorpe 2-1 in the Carling Cup, and he'll be at Villa Park on Saturday for the Charlton game. Of course, I will be there, too.

Villa drew 0-0 with Watford yesterday evening, but again they really should have clamed all three points! Villa's next game is against Scunthorpe in the FA Cup on Wednesday. Over the other side of the pond, D.C. United drew 1-1 with New England on Wednesday. They play the Chicago Fire later on this evening.

Villa drew 1-1 against West Ham on Sunday afternoon, but they really should have claimed all three points - they should have been three or four goals ahead before half-time! The entire team is oozing confidence and playing superbly at the moment. Villa's next game is at Watford on Saturday evening. I expect three points!

Over the other side of the pond my favourite MLS side, D.C. United, beat Chivas USA 2-1 and drew 1-1 with Real Salt Lake in their last two games. They also became the first team in the league to secure a playoff berth thanks to their excellent 14-3-9 record. D.C. United play New England Revolution later this evening.

It has been five years since that fateful day. Five years. I can still remember exactly where I was and exactly who I was with when almost 3,000 people lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on America. The images of those planes hitting the two towers still stun me in to silence even now. I will always remember that day.

I can't believe it. I just cannot believe it. Some lowlife scumbag has used a key or some other sharp object and put a huge scratch down the side of my brand new car! Thankfully, it isn't a deep scratch, and I've managed to make it less prominent using T-Cut, but it's still going to cost me money to fix properly. I am so mad.

There aren't any Premiership games at the moment due to Internationals, so I'll talk about MLS instead. The MLS All-Stars beat Chelsea 1-0 in the All-Star game back in early August. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho blamed his teams lack of fitness for the loss. D.C. United had eight players on the All-Star roster.

And speaking of D.C. United, they seem to have suffered a loss of form after the All-Star break. They drew 0-0 with the New York Red Bulls, 1-1 with the Colorado Rapids and were thumped 5-2 at home by Los Angeles Galaxy! Ouch. They will be hoping to get back to winning ways against Chivas USA later on this evening.
