I'm working on a new design for this site. I think the dashed border effect has had its day, don't you? And this design
is almost three years old. I'm also working on coding a new backend application - powered by
PHP and
MySQL - to replace
Movable Type. I plan to have it coded, tested and deployed in the next few months.

Well, it had to come to an end at some point. Villa's unbeaten start to the Premiership season ended yesterday at Anfield as Liverpool beat them
3-1 in a game that at one point I feared could have been a hammering. Nevermind. Next Saturday Blackburn Rovers visit Villa Park, and that should be an easy three points.
The
Caps meanwhile aren't having the best of road trips. There only win came against the Colorado Avalanche, who they beat
5-3 on Wednesday. They lost
3-2 (SO) to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday, and then last night, were beaten
4-0 by the Edmonton Oilers. The Caps play the Calgary Flames next on Monday night.
D.C. United lost their last game of the MLS season
3-2 to the Chicago Fire. They still won the Eastern Conference by miles, though. Last weekend they took a
1-0 aggregate lead against the Red Bulls in the MLS Cup. The second leg is later this evening, and D.C. United's away goal puts them in a very strong position indeed.

Oh, great. After beating Leicester
3-2 in the third round of the Carling Cup, with a goal in the last minute of extra-time,
Villa have just drawn Chelsea away in the next round! Wonderful. It will be an interesting game for sure. Villa travel to Anfield on Saturday to play Liverpool. But will the unbeaten start continue? I do hope so.
Over the other side of the pond the
Caps lost
6-4 at home to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday evening. I think that can be blamed on an awful second period in which the Lightning scored three goals without reply to take a two-goal lead in to the third. The Caps are in Colorado this evening to play the
Avalanche.

Well, it wasn't the best performance from
Villa, but the
1-1 draw against Fulham at least earns them a point and keeps them unbeaten so far this season. A draw was a fair result I think. Villa's next game is away at Leicester City in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night, followed by Liverpool away in the league next Saturday.

The
Caps beat the
Florida Panthers on Wednesday night. They won
5-2, with all of their goals coming in the first period! It could have been another rout like the one in
January 2003. Unfortunately, that good result was followed by a
4-3 (SO) loss to Atlanta last night. The Caps play
Tampa Bay tomorrow night.

Villa almost lost their unbeaten streak against Tottenham yesterday afternoon in front of an almost full Villa Park (42,551 attended the game). Instead, thanks to a superb strike from Gareth Barry, they extended it to eight games. The match ended
1-1. Villa's next game is at home against Fulham next Saturday.
The
Caps lost
3-2 (SO) on Thursday night to the Minnesota Wild, who are absolutely flying at the moment, and
4-3 (OT) to the
Atlanta Thrashers last night. I think only scoring from 1 of 6 power plays against the Wild, and 1 of 9 against the Thrashers
might be something the Caps need to fix as soon as possible!

The
Caps were thumped
5-2 by the Rangers on Thursday night, which wasn't exactly the best way to start the season. Still, they more than made up for it by thumping the Carolina Hurricanes
5-2 in their first home game of the season last night! The Caps play the
Minnesota Wild next, but the game isn't until Thursday night.
D.C. United lost
1-0 to Houston Dynamo last weekend, and
2-1 to New England Revolution last night. They sure seem to be taking it a little too easy as the
MLS regular season draws to a close. Then again they did run away with the Eastern Conference title and clinched a playoff berth before any other team in the league.

Woohoo! The 06/07
NHL season begins tonight with three games. The
Caps, who play the
New York Rangers tomorrow night, have had a fairy decent preseason. They lost 3-2 (OT) to Tampa Bay, beat Pittsburgh 5-4 (OT), beat New Jersey 3-1, thumped the Flyers 6-1, beat Philadelphia again 1-0, and lost to Carolina 4-2.

Well, I said I'd be happy with a point at Chelsea, and I am very happy indeed! Despite going a goal down in first few minutes of the game,
Villa came back to equalise just before half-time. The game finished
1-1 earning them a well deserved point. Villa's next game is in two weeks time against Tottenham Hotspur at home.
