Villa had miserable Boxing Day, losing
2-1 to Tottenham. One of the things they have to stop doing is conceding silly goals. Villa are now without a win in eight games. I do hope there will be some new players coming in January otherwise things might continue to go down hill. Villa's last game of 2006 is against Charlton tomorrow.
The
Caps also had a miserable Boxing Day, too. They were hammered
6-3 by the Buffalo Sabres, who went six goals up before the Caps even decided to start playing! The misery continued the following evening as well with a
4-1 loss to Montreal. The Caps play the New Jersey Devils later this evening.

I just
love this time of year! Christmas is a very magical and special time, but also a time for reflection and thanksgiving. I've just got home from a lovely evening mass, which has really put me in the mood. Don't forget you can track Santa on his way around the world thanks to the super folks at
NORAD. Merry Christmas!

Well, apart from former manager Ron Saunders making his first return to Villa Park in over 20 years, there was no other Christmas cheer to be found there yesterday as Villa were beaten
3-0 by Manchester United. Villa's next game is on Boxing Day against Tottenham Hotspur at White Heart Lane. It won't be an easy one.
Meanwhile, over the other side of the pond, the
Caps suffered a loss of form with a
5-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and a
4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils in the week, but they managed to hold on last night to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs
3-2 at the Air Canada Centre. Up next for the Caps: the Sabres on Boxing Day.

Whilst I was doing my Christmas shopping today (thank goodness that's over - well, for another year at least!) I picked up a copy of
Wintersong by one of my favourite female artists,
Sarah McLachlan. You can guess from the title that it's a holiday album, but what a superb holiday album it is! It has made my Christmas.

I was thinking about purchasing the
Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade early next year, but if the Amazon UK price is anything to go by, I think I'll stick with Windows XP for a bit longer! After all, the best things come to those that wait (or so they say) and I'm fairly certain Microsoft will have some kinks to iron out first!

I still can't believe that after dominating the entire game at Villa Park yesterday evening
Villa lost
1-0 to Bolton to a dubious penalty decision in the 75th minute! It was a game Villa really should have won - or at least picked up a point. Villa's next game is against Manchester United at Villa Park next Saturday afternoon.
The
Caps meanwhile are playing very well indeed. They beat the Atlanta Thrashers
3-2 on Friday night thanks to an Ovechkin hat trick, and last night they beat the Flyers
4-1. That win moved them up to fifth in the Eastern Conference, and anything above eighth is good enough to make the playoffs at the end of season!

The
Caps failed to win five straight games for the first time since March 2001 on Friday evening. They were well beaten
6-1 by the Mighty Ducks. Still, at least they bounced back to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers
5-3 on Saturday. Last night they lost
5-4 (SO) to the Penguins after being 4-0 up in the second period. Whoops!
Over this side of the pond
Villa drew (again!)
2-2 with Sheffield United last night in a pulsating game. Villa really should have been several goals ahead in the first half, though. Villa's next game is on Saturday evening when Bolton are the visitors to Villa Park. That will be a tough game, but hopefully Villa can take all three points.

Like most sites on the web this site is often visited by web crawling robots.
Slurp,
Googlebot and
MSNBot are three such examples. Why am I telling you this? Well, I was being geeky and perusing the access logs for this site a few days ago, and I noticed a visit from robot I hadn't seen before called
TurnitinBot.
Apparently, TurnitinBot's sole purpose is to help its owners,
Turnitin, to collect content from the web, which they in turn use to help thousands of educational institutions prevent plagiarism! Anyway, I thought it was such an interesting use of a web crawler, I just
had to post about it. Cheating students, beware!

Things have been going well for the
Caps recently. They beat the Dallas Stars
4-3 last Thursday, and followed that up with a
7-4 hammering of the Buffalo Sabres and a
6-2 hammering of the Ottawa Senators last night! If they beat Anaheim tomorrow night it will be their first five-game winning streak since March 2001!

Villa drew
2-2 with Portsmouth on Saturday, which I thought was a great result. Fratton Park is now officially the worst Premiership ground I have visited on my travels. Still, it looks like I'll be visiting a much better ground - Old Trafford - sometime early next year, as Villa drew Manchester United in the FA Cup over the weekend.

I'm off to Fratton Park on Saturday to watch
Villa play Portsmouth. It's a pretty long journey, so I hope the weather and the result are decent! Despite a
1-1 draw at home against Middlesbrough, and a
3-1 loss to Man City on Wednesday, Villa are still 5th in the table, so getting all three points would be fantastic.
The
Caps meanwhile were hammered
7-1 by the Toronto Maple Leafs last Friday, and lost
4-1 the following day to the New York Islanders, before beating Tampa Bay Lightning
5-2 on Tuesday night, which is a pretty good way to end a six-game losing streak if you ask me! The Caps play the Dallas Stars later this evening.
