I finished reading
Echo Park by
Michael Connelly late yesterday afternoon. Oh, boy, does that man know how to write a good crime thriller or what? I just couldn't put it down once I'd begun reading. I didn't expect it to end the way it did, though - the twist towards the end was beautifully done. Highly recommended stuff.

I was expecting
Villa to win comfortably against Leicester in the Carling Cup third-round this evening, but instead they lost
1-0 and played utterly rubbish. They didn't deserve to win the game with that performance. I'm very disappointed. Villa's next game is a very tough one away against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

Villa did indeed bounce back from last week's defeat at Manchester City with a well deserved
2-0 win at home against Everton on Sunday afternoon. Villa looked pretty solid at the back again, and were always a threat going forward. Villa play Leicester in the Carling Cup third-round tomorrow night - I shall be there!

I saw
Shoot 'Em Up starring Clive Owen last night. It's over the top and totally ridiculous in places (actually, most places), but it had me chuckling all the way through! Clive Owen was just perfect for the role of Smith. Apparently, according to IMDb, the total number of people killed was 100. I lost count after the first scene!

I can't believe Jose Mourinho
quit Chelsea this morning. He was quite a colourful character - I just plain loved some of his
comments to the media on a whole range of things - and English football won't quite be the same any more without him. I think him quitting was always going to happen sooner or later, though.

After the fantastic home win against Chelsea a couple of weeks ago, I was very disappointed
Villa lost
1-0 to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. I hope they can bounce back with a good performance against Everton this Sunday at Villa Park. They have to show some consistency to stay up there with the top teams!

I saw
Disturbia at the cinema last night. It stars the lovely Sarah Roemer, and Shia LaBeouf (who was in the summer blockbuster Transformers). I thought it was a pretty good film, although it was obvious how it was going to end. I also saw the trailer for
The Kingdom last night (out 5th October), and it looks rather good.

I went to
Drayton Manor with Adam and Richard on Wednesday. The weather was great and we all had an excellent time (especially on the bumper cars). I don't think Drayton Manor is anywhere near as good as
Alton Towers, but it's certainly a lot cheaper, and a lot easier to walk around, too, as it's a lot smaller!

Half-Life 2: Episode Two
finally has a release date: Wednesday October 10th. I've been eagerly awaiting the next installment of Valve's Half-Life series for absolutely ages, but I just know it's going to be worth the wait - I've pre-ordered my copy via
Steam already. Portal and Team Fortress 2 also look quite promising.

I watched
1408 at the cinema on Friday night. It's based on a Stephen King short story of the same name about a rather evil hotel room. I thought it was a pretty good film. It was scary in places, but not overly so, and although the twist towards the end was sadly somewhat predictable, it was very nicely done indeed.

Woohoo!
Villa beat Chelsea
2-0 at Villa Park yesterday afternoon, and they thoroughly deserved the three points. Zat Knight scored on his debut with a bullet header, and Gabriel Agbonlahor scored the second towards the end - much to my relief. I'm somewhat annoyed that they don't have another game now for two weeks!

Villa only managed to acquire two more players before the transfer window closed last night. They signed defender
Curtis Davies on loan from West Brom (although that will become a permanent deal eventually) and
Moustapha Salifou, a midfielder who plays for Togo, from Swiss side FC Wil. I'm very disappointed.
