After three years with my current employer, I think it's finally time to move on. My career has stagnated. I just feel like I'm spinning my wheels, going nowhere fast whilst others accelerate away. Of course, there are other reasons. I made the mistake of staying in one place for too long before - I'm not letting that happen again.

Villa drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers at Villa Park yesterday and were quite disappointing. They could have gone up to fourth in the Premier League with a win! Fifth position isn't too bad, though. There's now less than a week left until the January transfer window closes, and Villa still haven't acquired any new players...

Villa came back from a goal down to draw 2-2 against Liverpool at Anfield this evening. I'm so proud of them - what a fantastic result. It's just a shame that when they took the lead they couldn't hold on to the end. Villa are sitting sixth in the league and play Blackburn Rovers next at Villa Park this Saturday coming.

Fantastic news from Villa Park today that central defender Martin Laursen has agreed a new two and a half year deal - thank God for that! Laursen has been absolutely superb in the heart of the Villa defence this season and I'm really glad he's staying. There's still no sign of any new players arriving any time soon, though...

I received Football Manager 2008 for Christmas. I'm really eager to start playing it, but as I predicted months ago, it was released with some annoying game-spoiling bugs. A patch has already been released, and by all accounts there is another one due soon to fix the other issues - plus the new issues the first patch introduced!

I was hoping to have an LCD monitor by now, but thanks to Dabs, sadly that is not the case. I'm hoping to order an alternative either today or tomorrow once I've done my homework on the ones I've shortlisted. I may have to go slightly over budget to get what I want, which is somewhat annoying, but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

And with a comfortable 3-1 demolition of Reading, Villa are now sixth in the Premiership - albeit on goal difference. I thought they played very well today. Reading didn't really threaten much. I hope Villa can get some extra players in before the end of January to help keep them up there. Villa are at Liverpool next. Tough game.

Dabs say that the BenQ FP91G+ is an obsolete product, so they will be unable to obtain one for me. So why was it available to buy on their website? Grr! I'll be having a moan about that to them via e-mail later today. I'm very disappointed. I guess I'll just have to choose another LCD monitor - and I won't be buying it from Dabs!

Tom Hanks attended the London premiere of his latest film, Charlie Wilson's War, and showed his true colours by wearing a Villa scarf - what a star! The film itself has already been nominated for five Golden Globes and looks really, really good. I'll be going to see it on the big screen in the not too distant future!

Who's going to become the 44th President of the United States, then? After the result yesterday in the New Hampshire primary it's wide open. I don't usually follow the elections in the United States all that closely, but I reckon this one is going to be very interesting indeed. I wonder who will win the Michigan primary?

Now here's something I didn't know. Apparently, Tom Hanks is a Villa fan. So, not only is he a great actor, he also has claret and blue blood running through his veins! I shall definitely have to go and watch his new movie, Charlie Wilson's War, (which actually looks rather funny) when it hits the big screen later this week!

Another of the things I planned to get done in 2008 was to replace my trusty 17" Dell CRT monitor. I'll be sad to see it go, but I think it's time to move with the times, so I've bought myself a 19" BenQ FP91G+ LCD monitor from Dabs. It's not a world-beater, but it has had some good reviews, and I can't wait for it to be delivered.

I watched I Am Legend at the cinema on Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. There was plenty of tension and some really good jumpy bits. Will Smith was excellent and the special effects were superb. The film has had a bit of criticism about its use of CGI for the vampires, but I thought they looked pretty convincing!

Villa lost 2-0 to Manchester United in the FA Cup earlier this evening. With the clock ticking down in the second-half, the game looked to be heading towards a replay, but unfortunately for Villa it wasn't to be. They didn't really do enough to win the game anyway. Reading are the visitors to Villa Park next Saturday.

I alluded to it in my post yesterday, and now I am going to confirm it: I am hopelessly addicted to Sid Meier's Civilization 4. It's an absolutely fantastic game. The previous games were excellent, but this one is the best so far - especially with the superb Warlords and Beyond The Sword expansion packs. Just one more turn...

One of the things I plan on getting done in 2008 is the redesign of this site. Now, I know I've been saying this for absolutely ages, but I am going to get it done at some point this year. I don't know when exactly, but it will be done. I promise. I might even start work on it again this weekend if I can stop playing Civilization 4!

Villa got 2008 off to a perfect start by beating Tottenham 2-1 at Villa Park yesterday. They're sixth in the Premiership now, and with the promise of some new players being added to the squad during the January transfer window, who knows how high they'll finish? Villa play Manchester United next in the FA Cup on Saturday.
