Well, I've been using my 19" LG L1953HR monitor for just under a week now and I'm really, really pleased with my purchase. It looks gorgeous and the picture is so bright, sharp and clear. I'm smiling every time I turn it on at the moment. It's a massive improvement over my old CRT monitor and I have lots more space on my desk!

There was an earthquake early this morning - the biggest in the UK for almost 25 years! It sure had me worried for the ten, unbelievable seconds my entire room was shaking! Thankfully, it was only a small tremor really - and there was no loss of life - but it has caused a fair amount of damage across the country.

Villa beat Reading 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to keep themselves firmly in the hunt for the fourth spot in the Premier League - and a place in the Champions League next season. I can't believe I've just wrote the words 'Villa' and 'Champions League' in the same sentence! Martin O'Neill is doing an absolutely fantastic job.

The new single from Mariah Carey, called Touch My Body, is absolutely superb! Her new studio album is called E=MC2 - not That Chick as previously thought - and is now due to be released around the middle of April. I'm very pleased to see she's worked with Jermaine Dupri again on several of the tracks. Roll on April!

I watched Rambo at the cinema last night and really, really enjoyed it. Despite being as old as he is I thought Sylvester Stallone did a pretty good job! The film was extremely violent, but I have seen a lot worse. I quite liked the ending as well. I think that will be the last Rambo film - and what a fine one to end on.

Firefox 2.0.0.12 was released a week or so ago to fix a number of security and stability issues. Make sure your copy is up to date. Mozilla also released the third beta of Firefox 3 last week, which is looking very promising indeed. I'm really glad to see an update to the excellent Thunderbird is also due in the next week or two.

I received a fantastic e-mail from Virgin Media yesterday. It said: "We like to give our customers the best service we possibly can. That's why we're upgrading your broadband speed from up to 4Mb to up to 10Mb - free. No catch. No strings attached." They're more than doubling my current speed. How awesome is that?!

The second patch for Football Manager 2008 was released yesterday by the folks at Sports Interactive. It fixes many, many bugs and is apparently the final patch they're going to release for this version of the game. I think I'll start a career game in Iceland over the weekend and lead Keflavik IF to league and cup glory!

EBuyer have dispatched my order! Hopefully, it will arrive either tomorrow or Saturday, or failing that, one day next week - I can't wait! I'm currently listening to the excellent Universal Religion, Vol. 3 by Armin van Buuren. If you're curious about my listening habits, have a read of my music profile page over at Last.fm.

After the last debacle I had buying an LCD monitor, I finally got around to ordering another one this evening. I've gone for the 19" LG L1953HR, which is a little more expensive than the BenQ one I originally wanted, but still within the budget I set myself. I ordered it from EBuyer, and unlike the last time, it should arrive soon!

Fantastic news for the city of Birmingham today as the government announced it would provide most of the funding for a £598m revamp of New Street Station. And about time too! The current station is an absolute eyesore. Predictably, this is getting scarcely a mention in the news, but that's hardly a surprise...

My favourite female artist of all time, Mariah Carey, is releasing a brand new studio album called That Chick at the end of March. This is fantastic news and I will certainly be pre-ordering my copy shortly! The first single off the album, called Touch My Body, is apparently due out sometime this month - I can't wait to hear it!

I watched Cloverfield at the cinema on Friday night, and despite the annoyingly abrupt ending, I thought it was absolutely superb. The camera movements made me feel a bit iffy at first, but I think filming it that way (from the perspective of someone holding a video camera) really added to the movie. Highly recommended.

Well, after a quite simply awful first-half, Villa sparked into life and eventually ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against Newcastle. Clearly, substituting two players at half-time and whatever O'Neill said to the team in the dressing room worked. Villa are fifth in the table and face a tough trip to Reading next in two weeks time.

Part 8 of the hilarious Street Fighter: The Later Years is now online. It's the first part of a two-part conclusion. I'm really quite disappointed such an original series is coming to an end. Several of the earlier episodes have had me in absolute stitches. I wonder what will happen in the final instalment? I can't wait to find out!

I've recently read two excellent novels. The first, Nimitz Class by Patrick Robinson, was very similar to The Hunt For Red October by Tom Clancy, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The second, The Woods, was yet another cracking good yarn by one of my all-time favourite authors Harlan Coben. I highly recommend them both.

Villa only signed one player, Wayne Routledge, during the transfer window in January. I'm very disappointed, but I'm sure Martin O'Neill knows what he's doing. I hope to see Villa bounce back with a win against Newcastle at Villa Park this Saturday after their dismal 2-1 defeat away at struggling Fulham on Sunday.
