Well, well, well. The Gareth Barry saga is now apparently over after Liverpool failed to meet a final deadline set by Villa to put up or shut up. I say it's apparently over because there's a lot of talk about a deal going ahead still. Of course, how much of it is true is anyone's guess. Personally, I'm hoping he remains a Villa player.

I went to see The Dark Knight at the cinema on Friday night with Adam and Richard. What an absolutely superb film. It's most definitely the best film of 2008 so far by a long way in my humble opinion. It really lived up to all the hype. It's also one of those films you simply must see at the cinema. Highly recommended.

Villa are through to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup after beating Odense BK 1-0 at Villa Park yesterday. Sadly, the game was marred by a nasty injury to Wilfred Bouma. Get well soon, Freddy! Villa also announced the signing of Brad Friedel from Blackburn yesterday, which I think is another great signing.

After drawing 2-2 against Danish side Odense BK in the first leg of their Intertoto Cup tie last weekend, which wasn't a bad result really, Villa will be looking to finish the job on Saturday evening at Villa Park. It's a game Villa should win quite easily, and if they do, they'll go through to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.

Make sure you head on down to your local cinema to watch the animated film of the year that is Wall-E. I watched it yesterday afternoon with Adam (we were the only twenty-somethings in the cinema!) and thought it was absolutely awesome. It's funny, touching, and in parts, simply breathtaking. Highly recommended.

I saw two great movies over the weekend: Wanted staring the lovely Angelina Jolie, and Hancock staring Will Smith. Both movies were good fun and I enjoyed them immensely. Hancock was hilarious. Wanted got rather silly at times, but Angelina Jolie and some brilliant action sequences more than made up for that I think.

Villa have signed goalkeeper Brad Guzan from MLS side Chivas USA. The deal is still subject to him getting a work permit from the Home Office, but it's thought that shouldn't be a problem. This is yet another excellent signing by Martin O'Neill. There's still no sign of the Gareth Barry saga coming to an end though. I wonder...

Villa have finally signed someone at last! Steve Sidwell signed a three-year contract earlier today. I think Sidwell is a fantastic signing, and I'm sure he'll be well worth the £5m Villa paid Chelsea for him. I'm sure I'm not the only Villa fan hoping that he's the first of many signings to come before the new season starts in August!

It's my birthday today! I'm 27 years old. Yikes! Thanks to everyone who sent a text message and/or birthday card. Much appreciated as always. I share my birthday with quite a few famous people. The current U.S. President George W. Bush, actor Sylvester Stallone and rapper 50 Cent being the three most notable.

Liverpool submitted another bid for Gareth Barry today, but it was still short of Villa's valuation. The Villa players report back for pre-season training tomorrow, and after his outrageous comments over the weekend, Barry has been told not to bother turning up. Something tells me Martin O'Neill is rather annoyed with him!

And so the Gareth Barry saga continues. Over the weekend he launched an astonishing attack on Martin O'Neill in what appears to be a desperate attempt to force Villa to sell. Martin O'Neill has said he's prepared to let Barry leave, but the question is: are Liverpool willing to meet Villa's asking price? It's not looking likely.
