Villa reached the first round of the UEFA Cup proper with a 1-1 draw against FH Hafnarfjordur on Thursday evening. It was a fairly lacklustre game, but to be fair it had already been won in the first leg. Villa also bought James Milner from Newcastle yesterday for around £12m. Great signing. Liverpool are up next tomorrow.

It doesn't seem that long ago, but way back in January I said that one of things I wanted to get done this year was the redesign of this site. Well, it's now almost September... and I haven't even started it! Oops. I think I'll use the two weeks annual leave I've got coming up shortly to try and make a start. I must get it done!

I saw Hellboy II: The Golden Army at the cinema on Friday evening and thought it was pretty good. It was funny, action-packed and the visuals were stunning. I haven't seen the first movie so I can't compare, but most people seem to be saying the second movie is much better. I wonder if they'll make a third one?

I went to the Britannia Stadium on Saturday to watch Villa take on Stoke City. Unfortunately, Villa lost 3-2, with Stoke's third goal annoyingly coming in stoppage time. Villa didn't deserve to lose, but they didn't deserve to win either, so a draw would have been a fair result. FH Hafnarfjordur are up next on Thursday evening.

Villa comfortably beat FH Hafnarfjordur 4-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Cup second qualifying round last week. The second leg is next Thursday evening. Villa then followed up their win in Iceland by beating Manchester City 4-2 at Villa Park on Sunday to start the new season off with a bang. Stoke are up next on Saturday.

Villa signed defender Carlos Cuellar for £7.8m from Rangers yesterday. Yet another superb signing by Martin O'Neill in my humble opinion. All of a sudden I'm starting to feel more optimistic about the coming season! Villa play FH Hafnarfjordur in the first leg of their UEFA Cup second qualifying round tomorrow evening.

At long last there are some new faces arriving at Villa Park! Villa signed Nicky Shorey from Reading earlier today, and hope to add Luke Young from Middlesbrough shortly. That's the defensive crisis sorted then. It's also rumoured that Villa are after another pretty decent player. It might not be true, but I'm excited all the same!
